Finishing up

To give the van a more RV feel to it, we got new captain's chairs to match the couch  They also swivel around to add more seating to the camper space of the van.  These were not easy to install.  First, we were sent swivels that didn't have any seat belt attachments.  We had to send the swivels back, and it took a MONTH for them to return them.  Next, once we got them in, the house battery wouldn't fit under the seat anymore.  We solved that problem by buying a AGM battery.  (Absorbed Glass Mat)  These batteries are smaller and can be placed on their side.  We can fit two of these under the seat, even with the swivel, giving us MORE POWER!  Only one standard battery would fit even without the swivel.

This cabinet will hold most of our gear.  The tandem or two bikes will mount on top.  Ben used t-track for the fork mounts.  This way we can slide the bike mounts back and forth depending on what configuration of bikes we want to haul. We added doors near the back for storage of food and bedding.  The drawers are for our clothes.  You can see the fork mounts for the bicycles on top.  We can carry two single bikes or one tandem.

Ben added an on-demand propane hot water heater to the back so we now have hot showers when we finish our bike rides.  This is the ultimate luxury.  We have also purchase a small port-a-potty that fits in the cabinet under the fridge for night time emergencies.

Next Ben added an extension to the counter top.  This will be great for cooking and cleaning!  As you can see there really isn't much counter space in this kitchen.  We were basically using the stove area for counter top.  This wasn't the best after dinner when the stove was hot.
We also added a piece of molding to the top to hide the seam between the wall and the ceiling.  That simple detail adds a great deal to the "finished" look of the van.
